Lose Weight By Changing A Diet

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of losing weight is to go on a diet. But experts in weight loss strategies state that this will actually have just the opposite effect. A diet confuses the metabolism, the process or turning food into energy. When going on a diet, we reduce our calorie intake. This results in our body going into a survival mode: It starts "hoarding" energy instead of burning it. Our metabolism slows down, meaning that our body is burning calories less efficiently. We become tired and listless. Obviously, then we won’t use much energy and losing weight will become even more difficult.

Another problem with diets is that they don’t teach us how to eat properly. And when the diet is finished we return to our former unhealthy habits (like unhealthy eating habits or little physical activity) and the excess weight often comes back. But whereas during the diet we lost fat and muscle, the weight that comes back is only fat. Enrolling in diets again and again thus leads to a continuous and increasing loss of muscles. But muscles are great energy consumers, and less muscle with obviously lead to less activity and less weight loss. It’s a vicious cycle that becomes more and more difficult to break.

So, what to do now? How else to lose these extra kilos? The secret is not to rely on diets but rather to change your lifestyle. The core concepts are: exercise and healthy eating habits. A combination of both will help you to lose weight permanently. Exercising will also strengthen your immune system and so contribute to your general health.

Don’t "diet", boost your metabolism!

To lose weight instantly, focus on improving your metabolism! Research and well-renowned dietitians state that a high metabolism leads to easy weight loss. Foods that are high metabolism boosters help to lose weight in a safe and easy way. Just by a simple change of your diet you can reduce your weight in two weeks. This is a much healthier and much more effective way than quick and strict diets which after the first drastic successes often result in gaining even more weight.

Boosting your metabolism, instead, will benefit your health a lot. It will help you to lose weight in a safe and healthy way and also to keep up a good and healthy weight over a long-term period. And besides making you lose weight, foods that highly boost your metabolism have a number of other benefits for your health. For example, they will enhance protection against diseases caused by low metabolism, such as bloating and stomachaches, constipation or colon cancer.

If you take up metabolism boosting foods in your daily diet, your weight can drop in only two weeks, without great effort. You should eat plenty of the following foods which are great boosters for your metabolism (these are all foods that are high in fiber):

  • Lots of fruit, especially oranges, apples and grapes because they are higher in fiber than other fruits. Fruit and veggies are also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals your body needs.
  • Green leafy vegetables, e.g. lettuce, spinach, cauliflower and broccoli, are the veggies with the highest fiber content. It’s just important to wash them well if you are using fresh vegetables.
  • Fresh tuna and salmon. They don’t only contain fiber but also antioxidants which are good for your heart and stomach.

Besides knowing the foods that are good for you, you need to learn when to eat. The body burns calories differently at different times of the day. Don’t worry, you don’t need to sacrifice the foods you love to lose weight! You can still have your chocolate and burgers and all this nice stuff. But please, in moderation! Don’t eat them all at the same time, and avoid eating stacks and stacks of them. Then you can still eat them and yet lose weight. Isn’t that great?
